MBC Front Runner Province of Padova Italy

Overview

The Province of Padova, an intermediate local government, represents the interests expressed by its 930.000 inhabitants and 102 municipalities. The provincial government supports their economic and cultural development, as well as the development of the EU projects. According to the Italian law, provincial governments are responsible for education, environment, equal opportunities, pubblic transport and urban planning. The law gives them the power to stimulate and coordinate the over-municipal policies. With regard to the European Programmes, the Province has offered to Municipality free assistance from its European office and it has developed EU projects for them.

The Province has the role of pursuing the improvement and development of the public transport system by encouraging the rationalization of urban and extra-urban mobility, especially for areas with high levels of pollution and traffic congestion.
